MLA goes ‘Over the Edge’

Last week, West Kelowna MLA Kristina Loewen went “Over the Edge”—literally—to support men in recovery from substance misuse. As part of a thrilling fundraiser for Freedom’s Door Kelowna, Loewen rappelled down the Towne Place Suites by Marriott, joining 20 other participants in raising nearly $47,000 for the organization.
Freedom’s Door provides a two-phase recovery program, offering critical support through its 90-day core program and subsequent Next Steps initiative, which helps participants reintegrate into work, education, and stable housing. The organization, which has served hundreds of men over its 20+ years in Kelowna, is also expanding with the Belair Townhomes project, set to add 52 supportive housing beds.
“Addiction recovery isn’t just about individual healing—it’s about building stronger, safer communities,” said Loewen, highlighting the importance of the cause.
A huge thank you to MLA Kristina Loewen for her advocacy and to Castanet News for covering this inspiring event. Read the full article by Kathy Michaels on Castanet here.
