Levi’s Journey: From Freedom’s Door to Designing the Invictus Games Medals

Freedoms Door is so proud to share this story of a young man that was chosen in a group of four, to shape the art and branding of the upcoming Invictus Games in Vancouver. The attached video shares Levi Nelson as he unveils the medals of the Games, the medals that he himself designed at the personal request of the Invictus Games Organization.

Levi was a resident of Freedoms Door in 2015.

Levi is now 5 1/2 years sober. This is a story that Levi shared about his time just before coming to the program.

A week before I came to Freedom’s Door I had a near death experience. I was drinking a 26 of vodka a day in the 90 days before I dropped dead from a seizure. I saw my dead grandfather and two dead aunts who were shrouded in a bright white light. They had these huge smiles on their faces but weren’t talking to me, instead telepathically, they let me know I wasn’t allowed any further into the other side.

When I woke up in the ambulance on route to Kelowna General Hospital, I thought the paramedic was an angel and that I was in heaven, but he informed me of where I was and where he was taking me. The difference when I woke up was that I could feel what he was feeling and thinking. He was so concerned about me and was on guard like a person trying to save an injured bird. I could feel how much he cared for me, a perfect stranger. Coming back from that , surviving that ride, a door opened and I was given a gift to understand the bigger picture of why we’re all here.

Since his time at Freedoms Door Levi has attended prestigious art schools and is now an acclaimed artist in British Columbia, and soon to be well known all over Canada and around the World. You can also see his art adorning one of the gondolas at Whistler Mountain.

We, at Freedoms Door, send you, Levi, prayers for your continuing pursuit of your dreams.
